Matej has always had a creative nature that results in beautiful drawings, which often include nature, trees and fairy landscapes. Combining this with his passion for tattoos, he has created a job and hobby for himself and the community of Gračac. We met him in the Tamo Iza Youth Club, where he works as a tattoo artist.

Can you present yourself?
My name is Matej Kovalević. I live in Gračac. In my spare time, I started tattooing.
What inspired you to become a tattoo artist? What’s your earliest memory of tattoos?
I have loved to draw since I was little, and I continued that path. It led me to tattoo art until last year and I came up with the idea to really start tattooing. I already had tattooing in mind, but I was doing small tattoos for me and my friends more for fun. Then I decided to buy tattoo equipment and start to do something more seriously.
How many tattoos do you have?
For now, I have a couple of tattoos that I did by myself.
Where do you see yourself and your art in the future?
My friends encouraged me to start tattooing and I started doing it on them. I am currently making good progress and I hope for greater success, and I hope that soon I will be able to establish my own studio.
